Car-free block design
To design a children-friendly city is vital for the creation of cities that work better for everyone. The amount of time children spends playing outdoors, their ability to get around independently, and their level of contact with nature are strong indicators of how a city is performing.
Children-centred design relies on the following principles:
1. Return the roads in the city to pedestrians and cyclists, and set up safe and healthy green roads in areas where children often appear.
2. Design more green spaces and parks for children activities, and connect green spaces into systematic green rings.
3. The design of city public space should follow children’s perspective: playing, walking, exploring safely around are a priority within the urban environment.
